Wheeeeee!

Yesterday, ANN found news that Crayon Shin-Chan, the long-running comedy manga, will not end with the death of its creator, Usui Yoshito. With the permission of Usui’s family, several of his former assistants will continue writing and illustrating the 4-panel gags that have entertained Japan for 20 years.

This is a great relief to people like myself, who have a hard time imagining a world without such venerable series as Doraemon, Sazae-san, and Crayon Shin-Chan. The world is just a more comforting place with those old standbys providing stability to the industry, and even though the Crayon Shin-Chan anime (Shin Chan in the US) was already confirmed to continue after Usui’s death, this announcement keeps many manga readers from having to deal with a prolonged withdrawal from the foul-mouthed, mischievous little boy.
