Arakawa Under The Bridge – Spring Anime Preview

Posted on: December 10, 2009

I'm not sure how much of this image is real.It looks like we might just be seeing the ebb of the moe boom, as most of the anime that have been announced or teased for the spring 2010 season haven’t been “slice of life” stories – or, as I like to call them, “snoozefests.” The latest tidbit comes from the comedy manga Arakawa Under the Bridge, which follows the life of a rich young man named Ichinomiya Kou after an eccentric young girl who calls herself “Nino” saves him from drowning. When he offers her anything she wants in thanks for saving his life, she asks him to show her what love is, and thus begins his strange life living under the bridge with his new “girlfriend.”

As a preview of this upcoming anime’s quirky sense of humor, the official site has a live-action teaser trailer that involves a man in a kappa suit. It’s an appropriate introduction to a manga that stars a girl who believes she is from Venus and manages to get a rich boy to try out homeless life.

The animation will be handled by the excellent Shaft studio, which has previously animated Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei and Bakemonogatari, as well as several other comedic hits. Arakawa is definitely something to look forward to next year after a dry 2009.
