Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls Anime Greenlit

Posted on: March 2, 2010

This is the safest image I could find on the Hyakka Ryouran site.Given the popularity of Sengoku Basara among the ladies, it was inevitable that another company would swoop in to take advantage of the other half of the otaku population left in the cold by Capcom turning legendary samurai into smolderingly hot men and overly pretty boys. Enter Hobby Japan, whose Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls multimedia project (it has a toy line, manga series, web comic, and light novel series already in print)  is in line to get an anime.

The series promises to be yet another fan service bonanza; the creator’s comments about the anime describe it as “ero-kakkoii” (sexy-cool), and if you look past the jump, you’ll see some of the character designs – Hattori Hanzou as a maid and Sanada Yukimura as lolibait are particularly sacrilicious, and be sure to take a look at Charles d’Artagnan as a kind of gothic lolita-esque… thing.

First up, you have the main girl, based ever-so-loosely on Yagyuu Juubei:

Can't you tell the resemblance?

Yagyuu Juubei!

Then you have Sanada Yukimura as pedobait, whose costume is based on the school swimsuit look:

Hahahahahahahahahaha

Sanada Yukimura!

I’m too fascinated by this to be repulsed by how much they’re exploiting their own history here. Wow. This is just too good! Take a look at the rest of the gallery and tell me if you’re as interested in this as I am, whether out of real interest or morbid curiosity. This could be a train wreck to end all train wrecks!
