Weird Wednesday: Video Games!

Posted on: January 26, 2011

Today is the day! The day for what, you might ask? It is the day when several dreaded anticipated anime-themed video games are released in Japan: Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai Portable, Toaru Majutsu no Index PSP, Valkyria Chronicles 3Dream Club Zero, and Galgun.

Kuroneko Index

Do not adjust your monitor, that really is Kuroneko dressed as Index.

The Ore no Imouto game is a PSP exclusive with brand new stories written by the original author, Fushimi Tsukasa. The limited edition also comes with a separate PSP game set in an alternate universe where you can see what it’d be like to have Kuroneko, Saori, Manami, and Ayase as your little sisters. There are also minigames where you can get special pictures (see above).

Index for PSP is primarily a 3D fighting game, but there are hints that there may be hidden characters. Otherwise there’s not much information about it, even at the official website.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 is an indirect sequel to last year’s Valkyria Chronicles 2, which was an indirect sequel to 2008’s Valkyria Chronicles. It’s a PSP game, with the usual tactical RPG elements, a couple of new twists, and a darker storyline.

Dream Club Zero is a prequel to 2009’s Dream Club, a hostess bar simulation game for the Xbox 360. It’s rated 17 and up by Japan’s game rating system. Since the idea is to be a regular customer at a bar, get girls drunk, and win their hearts, that sounds about right.

If you shoot her, they will... wait...

And Galgun is… well, it’s Galgun. An Xbox 360 exclusive, it’s a rail shooter where your targets are girls who are totally in love with you (thanks to an error by a cupid trainee). But that’s OK, you’re not using real bullets, you’re using pheromone shots. And your goal is to find that one special girl and make her your girlfriend before the end of the day. Uh huh.

The chances of any of these games (well, except for Valkyria Chronicles 3, knock on wood) coming out in English is slim to none, and Slim just hopped on a plane to Tokyo. Still, you can dream, right? What game are you looking forward to checking out?

You’re going to let me borrow your Dream Club again, right?

Sure, but you’ll need a working Japanese Xbox 360. Mine is, ahem, in use.

[…] you may recall, I mentioned Galgun a couple of months ago. It is a video game where you shoot countless zombies girls with bullets […]
