Expect a whole lot of this.

Expect a whole lot of this.

With the spring anime season already set, the bulk of the news at next week’s Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 will involve the summer and beyond, and the news ramp-up to the big trade show is starting – the Roanapur Tourism Commission, which produces popular action-exploitation series Black Lagoon, announced the long-awaited third season of Black Lagoon will be released as an OAV series titled “Roberta’s Blood Trail.” The first disc will go on sale on July 17th, and the entire season will run 5 discs.

The 5 episodes will presumably cover the long, bloody “El Beile de la Muerte” arc of the manga. Those of you who want to see more of Black Lagoon‘s patented gun porn will be pleased at this announcement, and I’m personally happy that the overly long Baile arc will be finished quickly, since I felt it dragged out way too long.

Rukia... I mean Ruquia and her friends.I have no idea why I like the Quiz Magic Academy OVA so much. I like the arcade and DS games because of my undying love for trivia games and game shows (though my lack of a Japanese education hurts me when it comes time to answer social studies and history questions), but the OVA was a jumble of random fan service, miscellaneous comedy, and fan in-jokes. The trailer for the next episode of QMA is now available on Konami’s webpage, and it really doesn’t show anything that should impress – and yet I find myself vibrating in anticipation of its release.

I have no idea why, so if anyone can offer suggestions I’d be appreciative.

Thirteen Orphans! Kind of.

Next time I play poker, I'm shouting out my hand as if I were a giant robot pilot.

Crazy awesome, that is. The first 8-minute episode of The Legend of Koizumi, AKA Mudadzumo Naki Kaikaku, is now streaming on both YouTube and Nico Video. The show, a weird combination of political parody, over-the-top comedy, and Hikaru no Go-style epically overblown game-playing, will see a full DVD release on February 26th. The DVD will feature a half hour of major political figures morphed into mahjong-playing macho men, and I may or may not have already pre-ordered it from Amazon. The writer for this one has been behind some of my favorite “what the hell did I just watch” anime, like Dai Mahou Touge. This one doesn’t disappoint, managing to be both epic and incomprehensibly strange at the same time.

Hit the jump for the video and a summary for people who don’t understand moonspeak.

The text says "Let's defy fate."The official Broken Blade site (AKA “Break Blade”) has posted up a trailer for the first segment of its upcoming OAV series, and while sadly you can’t watch it unless you’re in Asia, you can at least see the cast and story of the fantasy/mecha hybrid.

Rukia... I mean Ruquia and her friends.Konami’s Quiz Magic Academy is getting its second OAV next year. According to Anime News Network, the second DS game based on the popular game series is coming with an original anime episode, similar to the OAV that came out last year.

The first OAV for Quiz Magic Academy was pretty amusing, with a bunch of little comic vignettes loosely strung together by the cast of the arcade trivia game. The series has such a silly premise – a group of student wizards compete in trivia games to “level up” as sages – that any attempt at a story would feel tacked-on and stupid, so hopefully the new OAV is just as light-hearted and short as the last one.
